How National Point Guard Camp Differs from Other Basketball Camps
1. It is designed for point guards and team leaders. We focus on developing the special skills and insights that these players need to run the show. We know the point guard position, and that's what we teach.
2. It is not for beginners. This camp is intended only for athletes - high school and college age - who already know the basics of basketball. Don't expect an explanation of double-dribbling or instruction on throwing a bounce pass, although you may be shown how to set up a pass on a 3-on-2 fast break.
3. Only a limited number of campers are enrolled for each session. This is probably the biggest difference, and it results in several benefits for campers. It allows us to cover more facets of basketball, and to cover major ideas in greater depth. We limit enrollment in each session to a number that preserves a seminar-like, lab learning environment. That number may vary from session to session depending on the facilities we have available at a given college, but in no event will we have athletes wondering if we know who they are or idling around on the court waiting for "their turn."
4. We work on mental development, not just physical. Daily classroom sessions, video analyses, and evaluations of fellow campers provide instruction and practice in developing the mental aspects of team leadership. As on-court coaches, this is more important for point guards than for forwards or centers.
5. More is expected of campers. This is not summer day care. You will not have dorm monitors or counselors overseeing your every action. You will be expected to pay attention to the instruction, and then act responsibly. If you can't do that, you should not be a point guard and you should not go to this camp. What's the result of this? You will be exposed to more useful information and valuable basketball help in these five days then you ever have before or ever will again (unless you join us for a second year).
